Director of Project Management
Quick Overview
My client is an ultra-high-end architectural millwork company based between Denver and Boulder, building $2M to $9M projects in the country's most elite mountain resort markets. Aspen, Jackson Hole, Telluride, and Big Sky among them. They are hiring a Director of Project Management to own the entire PM function, lead a team of client-facing PMs, and set the standard for how projects run. This is a working leader role, explicitly structured as the growth path to the company's General Manager seat.
THE WHO
An ultra-high-end architectural millwork company, established for decades, operating a large, modern facility between Denver and Boulder. State-of-the-art machinery, in-house veneer and finishing departments, and dedicated installation crews. The work spans complex staircases, paneling, custom cabinetry, closets, wine rooms, doors, and specialty furniture for some of the most elite homes in the country. In these markets, millwork is typically the single largest subcontracted scope on the project. The company is the craft flagship of a three-company manufacturing platform in a sustained growth phase. The platform runs on EOS, and its growth goal is explicitly a people goal. Developing exceptional leaders is treated as the binding constraint on growth, and this role is part of that investment.
THE WHAT
You will own the company's entire PM function. You lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of client-facing PMs who each run $2M to $9M projects for sophisticated, high-net-worth clients in the most demanding mountain markets in the country. You also actively manage a reduced project load of your own, smaller than a standard PM carries, so you stay inside the work you are leading rather than removed from it. The rest of your capacity goes to building the leadership layer and making the company's execution as consistent as its craft.
THE WHY
This seat is explicitly structured as the growth path to the company's General Manager role. The leadership team deliberately chose to develop the next GM from inside the PM function rather than hire one from outside, because there is no better place to learn this business than driving its projects. Success in this role is measured with that next step in mind.
THE WHERE
On-site in the Denver-Boulder area, leading this team in person every day. Travel to active project sites in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Utah as needed.
The Role
This is a working leader role, not a desk job. You actively project-manage a reduced load of work, leading from inside the projects rather than above them. You set and hold the execution standard the company's strongest PMs already model. Own the portfolio like the CEO of a business, with full ownership of outcomes, estimating fluency, and disciplined change-order review across the team. You build real, earned relationships across Estimating, Engineering, Production, and Installation, strong enough to move projects fast without friction. You strengthen relationships with GCs, architects, and designers through consistent, high-trust delivery, including coordinating scopes with sister-company PMs when multiple platform entities share a project, so the GC has a single point of contact. You run project scheduling and tracking in INNERGY (millwork ERP) and lead the PM team's EOS meeting and scorecard rhythms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of client-facing project managers
- Build a visible bench of PMs growing toward their own leadership paths under your mentorship
- Actively project-manage a reduced portfolio of your own, leading from inside the projects
- Set and hold the execution standard for how projects run across the team
- Hold the bar on estimating fluency and disciplined change-order review

- Lead the PM team's EOS meeting and scorecard rhythms
Requirements
Must Haves
- Experience leading a PM team, or clear readiness to, in high-end architectural millwork, custom cabinetry, or comparable luxury residential or commercial construction
- Big-project fluency, you have run projects in the $3M+ range and understand the complexity of managing work at that scale
- Estimating fluency, or a genuine appetite to build it, this role holds that bar for the whole team
- Strong at developing people and building cross-functional trust, not just managing projects
- Passion for the product, at this level of craft the people who thrive genuinely love the work itself
- Humility and curiosity, this business is highly complex and the strongest candidates are energized by that
- Wants a real leadership seat with a clear, stated path to General Manager, and is willing to earn it from inside the work
- No degree required, real-world experience carries more weight here than credentials
Preferred
- Hands-on background in the shop, engineering, or field installation, firsthand knowledge of how the work gets built shows up as sharper judgment, better GC conversations, and fewer surprises on site
- Strong commercial millwork background (hospitality, institutional, office), it translates well here
- Familiarity with EOS meeting and scorecard rhythms
